(God’s Truth is Absolute)

(Rev. Bernie Chung)

Translation:

In today's society, we may not realize that we have been dominated by a kind of postmodernism which advocates that nothing is absolute, including truth. When we preach the gospel to others, we may be surprised that they are skeptical to the only truth we Christians believe in. Often they will cling to their own set of "relative truth" that might be different from person to person. In other words, the truth that is accepted by some may not deemed to be suitable or convenient for others. Therefore everyone can have their own truth constructed out of their own experience and unique circumstances. Eventually, the truth or falsity of moral judgments, or their justification, is not absolute or universal, but is relative to the traditions, convictions, or practices of a group of persons. What’s even more unfortunate is that many Christians have also accepted this worldview of “relative truth” by agreeing that all beliefs are equally valid, thinking that all religions basically teach the same so-called good thing, and believing that Jesus is just one of many great spiritual leaders.

Roman 1:18-22 says: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither

glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools”.

Romans 1:18-22 points out the existence of truth and describes the foolish outcome of all those who deliberately suppress the truth. We don’t even need the Bible to point out the folly of “relative truth” that is based on false assumptions. If there is really no "absolute truth", then by definition, the term "relative truth" has no value and meaning. In other words, "relative truth" does not need to exist. From another perspective, if "absolute truth” is not known, how can "relative truth" determine its own authenticity? Isn't this "relative truth" doctrine deceiving itself?

The Bible tells us that an absolute truth really exists. We have the ability to understand and know this truth, and how it can affect all of us. This truth transcends time and place, and is equally accessible to everyone who seeks it. God’s truth is unchanging and eternal. Its validity is timeless, and its existence an undeniable fact.

Malachi 3:6 says: “I am the Lord do not change...”

Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

In John 14:6, Jesus says: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Brothers and Sisters, we must earnestly pursue the truth and fulfill our

promises to God through our actions. May God have mercy and help us,

amen!
